Description

“A strategy and digital marketing consultant that walks the talk”

~ CNA938

Check out highlights of the interview HERE.

In a new book by strategy consultant, J C Sum, he details what non-digitally-assimilated businesses globally have realized in the face of the Covid-19 pandemic, the need to evolve and adapt.

From understanding hybrid strategy to implementing traditional and digital marketing channels, this entertaining and insightful read offers practical, hard-hitting and sometimes creatively unorthodox advice for businesses in a digitally evolving world.

For the first time, Sum shares his “Marketing Inverted PyramidTM”, a new marketing-based fundamental business framework. As an upgrade from the traditional “four Ps of marketing”, this model guides an organization’s strategies and tactics, in an analogue or digital world.

Disruptive technology, globalization, geopolitical instability, rising costs and regulations, all create adversity for businesses over time, regardless of the size of the company, location or nature of the industry. However, these challenges have been compounded by the socio-economic and cultural shifts in the digitally savvy consumer mindset.

  1. Chin Bay Chong

This is certainly a very interesting and plain and easy reading book for the readers with little or no knowledge of e-commerce marketing or for people who want to know more. Enjoyed reading it very much!

  2. Meghann Ho

An insightful read that will benefit a wide spectrum of readers – those with no knowledge as well as with much experience. Marketing in the current digital age is put across in a very simple and concise manner that is easy to understand. I strongly encourage all to read it!

  3. Darren

This is a very comprehensive collection of marketing theories, well-referenced and backed by credible sources. A superb read, much like an academic journal. For most growing businesses, or new entrants, there will be many nuggets of information that they can pick up.

However, I would have hope to see more exploration of creative marketing tactics and tools.

Nonetheless, the key message of the book is well established and can be very solidly boiled down to the author’s principle of marrying both traditional and digital ways of marketing and emphasising on a big idea first.

  4. Cathy Foong

This book really helped me navigate through the saturated digital jungle of e-commerce which would easily overwhelm anyone who is new to it. However after picking up this book, I’ve gained a better insight of the tips and tricks that I truly believe are both effective and efficient. For the skills and insight that were included in this book, the price point is extremely accommodating and would be a fantastic addition to anyone who’s looking to upgrade themselves.

  5. FongHF

The writer has turned simple but astute observations of businesses, their markets and processes into very readable and persuasive arguments for adaptability and change for all organisations in today’s digital world. A good overview of the importance of mindset change to swing and thrive in tandem with our modern world.

  6. kah wah tan

Useful step by step /point by point matters that a potential/ongoing business can look into to better their chances in the market amidst competition and especially in the everchanging digital marketing arena…..where external help as pointed out by the author is always necessary.

  7. Sia Kheng Hong

This insightful book brings business and marketing strategy into the digital age in an easy-to-read and engaging style suitable for busy professionals and entrepreneurs who would not ordinarily think they can spare the time to pick up a book. The writer distills the overwhelming world of digital disruption and market complexity into understandable concepts, helped by actual examples and references. This book is an absolute must-read for any business hoping to survive the Covid pandemic and succeed in the new normal.

  8. Kenneth Toong

The book gives a very good historical view of how marketing concepts evolved from the 1960s to the present day. It provides a clear explanation of the tools required by companies who relied on traditional marketing channels to adapt to the new digital age. The book is full of well researched marketing concepts and can be developed into a standard text book for digital marketing. I am most impressed by the last chapter which is well written and provides answers on how to Evolve & Adapt.
