ENTERPRISE DEVELOPMENT GRANT CONSULTANCY

Evolve & Adapt is helmed by an Enterprise Singapore-recognised certified management consultant (TR 43: 2015) as per their Consultant Quality Initiative.

This allows Singapore companies who engage us to apply for the Enterprise Development Grant (EDG) to help offset consultancy-related costs (Up to 50% of eligible costs).

APPLYING FOR THE ENTERPRISE DEVELOPMENT GRANT

As a strategic marketing & branding consultant, Evolve & Adapt’s scope of work for approved EDG projects can cover the following:

    • Diagnosis and gap analysis of your company
    • Assessment of internal and external factors, such as strengths and weaknesses, and competition
    • Primary or secondary research
    • Recommendations and plans for implementation

The consulting project may address any of these areas:

    • Development of effective brand strategy that appeals to targeted consumers and offers differentiated proposition from the competition
    • Assessment of a brand’s financial value and identification of brand levers
    • Development of a strategic plan to optimise marketing resources and improve customer communications

The Enterprise Development Grant (EDG), administered by the Singapore government, supports projects that help you upgrade your business, innovate or venture overseas, under three pillars:

Core Capabilities

Projects under Core Capabilities help businesses prepare for growth and transformation by strengthening their business foundations. These should go beyond basic functions such as sales and accounting.

Innovation and Productivity

Projects under Innovation and Productivity support companies that explore new areas of growth, or look for ways to enhance efficiency through improving workflow with automation or technology.

Market Access

Projects under Market Access support Singapore companies that are willing and ready to venture overseas. You may tap into the EDG to help defray some of the costs of expanding into overseas markets.

ELIGIBILTY REQUIREMENTS FOR THE ENTERPRISE DEVELOPMENT GRANT

The grant funds up to 50% of qualifying project costs namely third-party consultancy fees, software and equipment and internal manpower cost.

To qualify for the EDG Singapore grant, your business must:

    • Be registered and operating in Singapore. EDG is open to Sole Proprietors, Limited Liability Partnerships and Pte Ltd companies.
    • Have a minimum of 30% local shareholding.
    • Have less than 200 employees OR have less than SGD100 million annual turnover. Ideally, with a minimum SGD500,000 turnover.
    • Not be a start-up. You should ideally be operating for at least 2 to 3 years.
    • Has business activity and preferably growth in the last few years.
    • Have plans to contribute to “workers’ outcomes”. i.e. You intend to increase your number of employees*, increase the salary of existing employees or provide training to upgrade existing employees.
    • Be in a financially viable position to start and complete the project. (EDG works on a reimbursement basis and is not an upfront grant.)

*Officially, your business does not need to have a minimum employee headcount. But, businesses with more than one employee are generally preferred unless you can demonstrate projected growth in human resources with the success of the project.

Applications will be assessed by Enterprise Singapore based on project scope, project outcomes and competency of service provider.

STRATEGIC BRAND AND MARKETING DEVELOPMENT

Specifically, if you are looking to improve the marketing or branding of your business in Singapore, you can apply for a EDG grant under the “Core Capabilities” pillar – Strategic Brand and Marketing Development.

This “pillar” supports a project that helps your company better capture target audiences and markets by differentiating your brand, and your products and services.

FAQ

What is the Enterprise Development Grant (EDG) and how does it work?

The EDG is a government grant administered by Enterprise Singapore. It supports projects under three pillars: Core Capabilities, Innovation & Productivity, and Market Access.

EDG works on a reimbursement basis, meaning you pay for qualifying costs first, then submit documentary proof to be reimbursed.

What are the eligibility requirements for the EDG in Singapore?

To qualify, your business must be registered and operating in Singapore, have at least 30% local shareholding, be financially viable, and not be a start-up (ideally operating for 2–3 years). For SMEs, the criteria include having fewer than 200 employees or an annual turnover under SGD 100 million.

What types of project costs can EDG cover?

The EDG grants up to 50% of qualifying project costs for eligible projects. Depending on the project and pillar, these costs typically include third-party consultancy fees, software/equipment, and internal manpower costs.

Under which EDG pillar does “Strategic Brand & Marketing Development” fall?

Strategic Brand & Marketing Development is under the Core Capabilities pillar of the EDG. It supports branding, positioning, and marketing strategy projects that help companies differentiate their products/services and capture target markets.

What conditions are there for EDG funding (e.g. reimbursement, documentation)?

Projects must be completed before reimbursement. You must submit final deliverables, audited accounts, relevant invoices/quotations, and documentation proving the project outcomes. The Business Grants Portal handles application and document submission.

Can businesses with low turnover or fewer employees still apply for EDG?

Yes, subject to meeting certain conditions. The business should be operating with some track record, have plans for growth, and ideally show contributions to worker outcomes (e.g. staff training, salary increases). Having fewer employees may not disqualify you, but more robust applications often come from businesses with evidence of growth.

What are “worker outcomes”, and why are they part of EDG eligibility?

“Worker outcomes” refer to measures such as increasing the number of employees, raising salaries of existing staff, or providing training/skills upgrading. These show that the project has a broader impact, not just on profits but on workforce development. EDG requires these as part of the evaluation criteria.

How long does the EDG application process take?

From submission to approval, the process typically takes 8-12 weeks or more, depending on the completeness of documentation and complexity of the project.

What are some examples of marketing/branding projects that can be supported by EDG?

Examples include developing a brand strategy to increase market outreach; digital marketing strategy for better online presence and lead generation; competitor or market research to identify positioning; creating marketing/sales plans or roadmaps to improve profitability.
